Sagence Develops Energy-Efficient Analog Chips for AI

Sagence, founded by Vishal Sarin, is creating analog AI chips to address the rising energy demand caused by GPU-driven AI workloads. Analog chips, unlike digital counterparts, use a range of values to represent data, eliminating bottlenecks by processing data in-memory. Sagence aims to complement digital chips by offering faster, more energy-efficient alternatives for specialized AI applications in servers and mobile devices. Backed by $58M from investors like Vinod Khosla and TDK Ventures, Sagence plans a 2025 launch, engaging with multiple customers and expanding its 75-person team. With lower production costs and rising semiconductor funding, Sagence targets reducing AI’s environmental footprint while competing with rivals like EnCharge and Mythic in the evolving analog chip market.

Le Chat Unveils Powerful Tools for Productivity

French-based Mistral AI has launched major updates to its free generative AI assistant, le Chat, enhancing productivity for students and professionals. New features include web search with citations, the Canvas interface for ideation and editing, state-of-the-art document and image understanding via Pixtral Large, and advanced image generation powered by Black Forest Labs Flux Pro. Users can now automate workflows with customizable task agents, all within a single integrated platform. These tools enable seamless document analysis, collaborative creation, and automation of repetitive tasks. Currently offered as a free beta, le Chat aims to provide cutting-edge AI capabilities affordably.

NVIDIA Unveils NIM Microservices for Weather Simulations

NVIDIA announced two NIM microservices at SC24, transforming climate modeling on its Earth-2 digital twin platform. The CorrDiff NIM microservice leverages generative AI for kilometer-scale high-resolution forecasts, delivering results 500x faster and 10,000x more energy-efficient than traditional methods. It enables detailed predictions for extreme weather events like snow, ice, and hail across vast areas such as the U.S., critical for disaster preparedness and industries like insurance. The FourCastNet NIM microservice accelerates global, medium-range coarse forecasts by 5,000x, supporting large-scale weather risk assessments. This breakthrough addresses rising weather-related disasters, which caused $62 billion in insured losses this year.
